What Times-Call Readers Said This Week – Longmont Times-Call

Here is a selection of comments on articles published by The Times-Call on its Facebook page from July 31 to August 6, 2021.
Boulder County Fair Parade returns; annual breakfast denied
Jason M. Ferguson: The rush to get things done before the next “masking event” arrives next week. And nobody cares.
Doug Bokelman: So happy that we are in Weld.
Brandi Wagoner: Garbage. Give it up already. All the stands are empty. And nobody cares
Jean Martinez: Where’s my turkey thigh and funnel cake?
Report: Denver’s annual per capita spending on homeless people is twice as expensive as a one-bedroom apartment
Carly Taylor: The cost of a camp sweep is ridiculous and nothing to help anyone. Spend the money on resources that will make a real difference!
Cathy Hartigan: This is ridiculous, and the problem keeps getting worse! I would be curious about what Longmont is spending on our homelessness issue.
Greg Gibson: More reasons for homeless people to move here. Then we’ll really be California 2.0
Karl Lee: There must be a bit of waste in the system to make it cost that much per person.
Fort Collins, Boulder sites will require proof of vax
Cathy Hartigan: This, as today’s tally shows: Boulder County Public Health on Tuesday reported 24 new cases of COVID-19, zero new deaths and zero new hospitalizations.
Schabrea Tink Anderson: Guess I’ll cancel my October plans. Good luck.
William Crook: A negative test older than a few hours is worthless.
Martha Lauer Cowley: No shirt No shoes No vaccine – and you can stay unvaccinated at home. It’s really about protecting yourself from vaccines because you are most at risk of suffering from COVID-19. And also, we’re entering the latter half of 2021 here like it’s 2020 again because of you.
SVVSD withdraws support for A Queer Endeavor conference
Kelsey Mabon: It is so disappointing. All children need to feel safe. It is not anti-religious. A way to please a few squeaky wheels while making children feel accepted and safe. Quite disgusting actually. And I have to add some way to go for them to waive the fees so that educators can still attend. And kudos to the community for fundraising to pay the donation fees!
Danielle Lee Goldberg: Shame on you SVVSD! All of your children deserve to feel safe. LGBTQ + children and religion should have nothing to do with each other. Sad day.
Lesley Hollywood: Why are taxpayers paying $ 15,000 to sponsor things like this? Imagine how this money could be used. “Turning swords into plowshares: disarming the supremacy of white Christians for the liberation of homosexuals and trans. “
Sam R. Stewart: Thank goodness I graduated. I don’t need to have this stuff down my throat anymore.
Tracey Lee Granger: That’s why you have to teach… the kids right from wrong at home, so when they go out into the world (no matter what message they get, they know right from wrong.
David Brown: So we go there with the fundamental thesis that Christianity is white supremacy? It sounds like an assortment of left-wing issues centered on indoctrination. SVVSD made the right choice. It doesn’t have to be taught in schools.
Erin McDermott: Wow. There is a huge difference between recognizing white Christian supremacy and being anti-religion. We are so far behind.
Colorado Hospitalizations and COVID Cases Rising Faster; three quarters of the state has “substantial” spread
Jeffrey Noonan: If you look at the charts and the slides, it’s way less than the January hike. As Boulder County’s numbers rise, hospitalizations and deaths are down. It is almost difficult to judge this by the number of cases since many vaccinees are asymptomatic. If people want to wear masks, they’re free to do so, but I’m glad the governor and Colorado Public Health don’t mandate them. January of this year with our big peak proved that masks and capacity restrictions don’t work. Despite downloading cases, we are still better, much better than six months ago
Matt Stewart: Hope everyone is ready for the second round of containment! People need to wake up!
Greg Gibson: To scare.
Luke Perkins: I see uneducated mouth respirators arrived claiming the vaccine is more dangerous than COVID.
Silver Creek graduate Valarie Allman takes gold in women’s disc
Pat Spears: Fantastic, congratulations!
Carla Gratkowski: NS ! Longmont’s Olympic gold!
Cindy Montgomery: Congratulation! So awesome and so proud of our local daughter!
Pandemic, Floyd’s death wreaks havoc on recruiting officers in Boulder and Weld counties
Jim Davies: We don’t need people as officers who could watch Chauvin and think what he did was right. Why is it such a blatant idea to demand that officers be trained and obey the law? Why is it so blatant to think that people should be held accountable when they do not follow their training and the law? Why?
Thomas Lawson: Qualified immunity seems like a bad idea that potential bad actors could take advantage of. IMO.
Timothy Jones: “Wait, are we going to be held accountable for our brutality and abuse?” We no longer have the right to be authoritarian henchmen in boots? Guess we’ll have to find another line of work!
Delayed shipments, higher costs, possible shortages: stop of I-70, big detour for commercial trucking
Beth Feil: Don’t blame the truckers, guys, they’re just as frustrated and tired as anyone. They have wives, children and families who, at the end of the day, want them to come home safe and sound. Give them some space, and maybe a thank you here and there for bringing you whatever you desire.
