Parties come together to deploy the tricolor atop Guntur’s Jinnah Tower a week after Hindu Vahini’s attempt

On January 26, police arrested some Hindu Vahini activists who wanted to raise the national flag atop Jinnah Tower, a prominent and iconic structure in the city of Guntur.
The police action drew the attention of the BJP and others, who condemned the detention of the Hindu Vahini activists.
Considering appeals from various groups, Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) Mayor Kavati Manohar Naidu said necessary arrangements will be made to hoist the national flag near Jinnah Tower.
He and Guntur East MP Mohammed Musthafa toured the tower and inspected the arrangements.
The mayor of Guntur explained that at the request of various groups, it was decided to decorate the tower with the tricolor flag and to build a mast to hoist the national flag near the tower.
He alleged that the BJP leaders were trying to spoil the peaceful environment of Guntur where people of all communities and religions live in peace.
“BJP State Unit Head Somu Veerraju is trying to make a problem out of it and disturb the peace in the region,” he alleged.
Mohammad Mustafa, a Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) MP from Guntur East, said the national flag would be hoisted near the tower in the presence of leaders of all political parties.
