Modern fatalism | Faith and values
Solomon, son of King David, was the wisest and richest man of his generation. Solomon is an enigma because in him we see both a sage and a fool. His proverbs show exceptional wisdom; but in Ecclesiastes we see his folly.
It’s his autobiography, when he was away from God. Ecclesiastes shows us the philosophy of man apart from God. It is the favorite book of many atheists. Voltaire is a perfect example. Cynics and critics cite this book again.
Millions of people are still trying to be happy without God. The devil convinced them that there is no God. How gullible and absurd can people be? All unregenerated people are fools in the sight of God. All atheists are fools by definition (Psalm 14: 1).
Atheists are also crazy, although many have doctorates and far too many people respect them. Simply put, without Christ, no man can be satisfied, even if he “wins the whole world but loses his soul” (Matthew 16:26).
Old Solomon tried everything to find happiness and meaning in life. But all he found on his own was emptiness (“vanity”). A lot of rich people who have no faith in God are like that today. They spend all their time traveling and seeking pleasure, but they are never satisfied.
Man is temporary and mortal on earth. He only spends a few years chasing the wrong things too often in life. He probably has all the answers written in a book on his shelf. The book is called the Holy Bible, the Word of God. But man is too often not wise enough to take it in writing and read it. Oh, what is missing!
Too many people look for meaning in life in the wrong places. When they don’t find it, they become fatalistic. It is a very popular philosophy today in modern America because so many people live outside of God. They will never find satisfaction and happiness this way. Fatalism generally denies the existence of God; otherwise, he claims that God does not hear and answer prayer. And it is true that God does not hear the prayers of unbelievers except when they repent and call on his name.
Selfishness goes hand in hand with fatalism. It consists of self-interest, criticism and cynicism. He considers man like another animal. This leads to social and caste systems, in which some people feel better than others. It is the type of pride that God hates the most. It is a great sin, and our children are learning this and many other follies in school today. This is probably the main reason our country is collapsing.
Never before in the history of our country have most people stayed at home or sought to entertain themselves on Sunday mornings. I believe that the lack of church on the part of most people is the root cause of all the troubles and problems that we see in our society today. Attending the right church (Bible preaching) would make most people right, but of course Satan offers many excuses to stay away from worshiping the living God. He has most of the people and doesn’t want to let them go.
