Patna, Mar 2 (UNI) Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said on Wednesday that the crime rate in Bihar has come down significantly and the state is at the 25th position in terms of crimes committed in the states of the country, which is the result of improved law and order. , following sustained efforts by his government since his election to power in 2005. Kumar, while responding to the debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor for his address to the joint sitting of both houses of the state legislature on the opening day of his budget session, said that as a result of sustained efforts by his government after being elected to power in 2005, the law and order situation had improved significantly in Bihar. According to its report released by the National Crime Record Bureau for the year 2020, Bihar ranked 25th in terms of crimes committed in the states of the country, he added. The Chief Minister said the number of murders committed in Bihar in 2005 was 3,423 which is now down to 2,799. The national average crime rate against women in 2020 was 56.5 while in Bihar, the figure was only 26.3, he added. Bihar was at the 30th position in terms of crimes committed against women in the states, he added. Kumar said that Bihar ranked 12th in terms of land area and 3rd in terms of population, but the state ranked 25th in terms of crimes committed in the states of the country. It was truly commendable that Bihar, with a vast population, was ranked 25th in terms of crimes committed, he noted. The Chief Minister said that the number of murder incidents in 2021 decreased by 11.14% compared to 2020. Similarly, the number of riots and kidnappings for ransom also decreased by 33.16 and 11.90% respectively over the same period, he added. Kumar said it should be noted that despite limited incomes, the number of people involved in criminal activities was lower than in several other states with good incomes.
