Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Friday he would meet with Union Water Resources Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat to pressure the Center to resolve water disputes related to Mekedatu balancing reservoir, Mahadayi water project and Upper Krishna project. Bommai said he would lead a cross-party delegation from Karnataka to meet with Shekhawat in the coming weeks, if needed.
He said the state would not accept the interconnection of Godavari, Krishna, Cauvery and Pennar unless the allocation of water and river basins is finalized. “After the Assembly session, I will visit Delhi and discuss all interstate water disputes such as Mekedatu, Mahadayi and Upper Krishna Project with Minister Jalshakti Shekhawat. I will inform the political parties in Karnataka about the outcome of our meeting,” he told reporters after chairing a multi-party meeting.
Karnataka Water Resources Minister Govind Karjol, Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, JD(S) Leader Bandeppa Kashempur, Karnataka Legislative Council Opposition Congress Leader BK Hariprasad, Former Resource Ministers DK Shivakumar, MB Patil and HK Patil were among those who attended the meeting, as reported by PTI.
