Eric Metaxas believes culture is at a “time of paradigm shift”, with science and archeology increasingly pointing to the existence of God – and those who oppose Christianity are “not going to like it “.

“We have all lived in a time when not only is the trend that science takes us away from God, but we have been living for over 100 years with the narrative that science is fundamentally at odds with faith, that reason is in contradiction with religion, ”the Christian author, speaker and conservative radio host told The Christian Post.

“The one thing everyone kept saying: Science takes us away from religion. Ironically, over the past 50 years precisely the opposite has happened. Science leads us to God. This is great news. “

In his latest book, Is Atheism Dead? Metaxas discovers new evidence and arguments against the idea of a universe without creator. It draws on the knowledge of the best scientists and five scientific discoveries to prove that atheism is untenable.

“I am definitely more excited about this book and disseminating the information it contains to people than I have ever been about any book I have written,” said the native. from New York to CP.

One archaeological discovery, according to Metaxas, particularly intrigued him, it is the reported discovery of the biblical Sodom. Some scientists have speculated that a city known as Tall El-Hammam was destroyed by a meteor and may in fact be the site of Sodom, the ancient biblical city destroyed for its wickedness.

“Most believers, and certainly most unbelievers, don’t know this information, and that’s because we live in a media echo chamber that tends to filter this kind of information. By the grace of God, I was able to come across this stuff, ”he said.

Metaxas explained that the title of his latest book is based on the 1966 Time magazine article which provocatively asked “Is God Dead?”

“Perhaps the logical question in 1966 was, ‘Is God dead? But the logical question, now that science itself points to the existence of God, which sounds crazy but it’s true, and no one knows – maybe now is the time to write a book with the title, Is atheism dead? “

Based on his research, Metaxas pointed out that science, archeology, and history not only support Christianity, they also undermine atheism.

“This idea that data and science disagree – the biggest news is that not only is this not true, but there are two things that follow,” Metaxas explained. “The second is, according to John Lennox… it’s actually atheism that is incompatible with science, which is a dramatic statement. The third thing, which nobody seems to know, but it is true, is that the Christian faith has led to modern science… it is a historical fact; it is not a Christian gloss on history.

“Science lately… is discovering things about our universe, about Earth, about human life, about cellular life that seems so finely tuned, so perfectly calibrated … that even atheists are shaken. It’s the only thing they don’t quite know how to handle it, ”he added.

The more science advances, the more it points to the idea that there had to be a Creator who created the universe, Metaxas said, citing, for example, the complexity of water and plate tectonics.

“Every believer should understand how bizarre this is. I mean, for you to study science, the more you look, the more you just think, “I almost can’t stand that.” “The proof of God is right… everywhere I look, including things like water and erosion,” he said. “It makes you realize that God is even more amazing than any of us could ever dream of. “

Metaxas expressed concern that some Christians today are “buying into a secular narrative” that says it is possible to believe in Jesus and the Bible until the scriptures seem to contradict science .

“This is not the kind of belief that God is interested in,” he said. “He’s not telling you to believe in something that isn’t really true. He is the truth … either Jesus rose from the dead bodily or He did not. Either what the Bible says is true or it isn’t. Either the Lord created the universe and every detail in it, or [He] did not. “

He added, “This idea that we would sort of put… our faith as Christians sort of in a corner, we participate in the marginalization of our faith. Our faith is supposed to touch everything: science, mathematics, history. We have to be much more daring in saying, “If this is true, it is true everywhere.”

The Bonhoeffer, amazing Graceand Martin LutherThe author acknowledged that although science and archeology increasingly prove the existence of God, there will always be opponents who refuse to recognize such a truth.

“I think in these last days, as things are unfolding in the world, God is making his light shine more and more; It allows us to discover things through science and through archeology… it just becomes more and more difficult to deny it, ”said Metaxas. “God will continue to hold this evidence… but at the end of the day, it must be the Holy Spirit. “

Although Is atheism dead was written for anyone keen to learn “with an open mind,” it was written primarily for the Church, said Metaxas – a Church he says is in desperate need of “waking up.”

“In my Bonhoeffer book I’m dealing with this – the Church took a long time to wake up, ”he argued. “And it’s a model of what not to do. If we don’t wake up and fight – and a lot of Christians have bad theology that says, “Oh, I don’t think I’m supposed to fight” – not only isn’t that biblical, but it is. demonic. God made us fight against evil. He calls us to fight on our knees in prayer, but he also calls us to fight in all kinds of other ways.

“Part of the reason I wrote this book is also to tell people, ‘Hey, that’s not a philosophy. Our faith is not a truth, it is the truth. And God gives this to us so that we can embolden ourselves. ‘”

Metaxas has said he believes God “is going to make a difference – but his Church” must fight “and be” armed with information. “

“On the science thing … I think, tell me where did I miss something here?” I know I am not because I got all this information from scientists. So people enlighten us, that Christians have their strange views. It is nonsense. We have to be bold, we have to know what we believe and we have to act. And, if you don’t do it for yourself, do it for your children and grandchildren.
