As democrats/progressives, how much respect should we show to religion.
Is there a general rule of respect for others that we should follow? I respect the lives and belief structures of others as long as they do not harm others,
As a gay and Jewish man, for example, I respect the fact that others have beliefs different from mine, openly form friendships and fight for the rights of others. I am not a member of their same group. Life is too short not to accept others because they disagree with you.
This is one of the main differences I see between us and our opposing party.
Don’t get me wrong, though. As a member of two minority groups who were attacked for being “different”, my bark is no worse than my bite.
But the vast majority of those who are neither gay nor Jewish are not members of a neo-Nazi sect, like MAGA, which would call for my destruction.
If I am approached by, or at a friend’s house of someone who is from another culture, I would never put them down or attack them.
And I respect the same of others,
This is why I am very sensitive, a little too much when I meet someone who loudly proclaims his anti-religion. Many of my friends here and in the meat world are not Jewish, don’t get me wrong, I understand where and why they’re from, I just disagree when it comes to accepting the faith
But some individuals make us theists a giant straw man, I think, calling us idiots, brainwashed, Republicans, not good as progressives, and so on.
One thing that I do as a Jewish person is not to write the word Gd with the three letters. I would never ask you to do the same in my journals or in my speech, just to respect my use of what I do.
Here is my reasoning for doing like me and the others: here
Again, it’s about respect,
